In this large Medicine buddha's thangka's right hand is stretched out downwards, palm open, and his thumb and index finger meet. This position is called Varada Mudra, which means "wish grant. He also has a sprig of the Myrobalan plant in his other hand. This is an important healing herb in Ayurvedic medicine. Some people think that this plant can fix both the body and the mind, freeing people from the sicknesses of dislike, attachment, and ignorance. His left hand is in his lap, palm facing up, in the meditation pose known as Dhyana Mudra. This pose represents the end of all sickness and suffering by realizing the total truth.
