This thangka is portrayed as Vajrasattva with consort on canvas, a traditional Tibetan meditation practice in Tibetan Buddhism.
Vajrasattva, the primary yidam god in union with his spouse Atopa, is linked to broken samayas and pledges and purifying negative karma. He is practiced in the Vajrasattva of the Secret Essence (Sangtik Dorsem), derived from Chokgyur Lingpa's Triple Cycle of the Secret Essence. This practice includes a comprehensive set of practices for the three main yidams of Guru Rinpoche: Vajrasattva, Vajrakilaya, and Yangdak Heruka. In the traditional Tibetan style, the thangkas can be framed in brocade or without brocade.
