Hayagriva, an emanation of the Bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara, is a Yidam or Istadevata and appears in various forms, including three faces, six arms, four legs, and sometimes adorned with large wings.
Hayagriva, also known as Tamdrin, symbolizes strength, speed, and the ability to overcome obstacles. This thangka features Hayagriva, a fierce form of Avalokiteshvara or Kuan Yin, known for healing ailments like leprosy and providing defense against Nagas, serpent-like water spirits. He neutralizes black magic and spells and is particularly helpful for terminal illnesses.
