Vajrakilaya Thangka Symbolize Wrathful Yidam Deity
The Vajrakilaya Thangka, a powerful and wrathful yidam deity, is a significant part of the teachings of Guru Rinpoche, the tantric teacher. It serves as the tantric master's personal yidam and teaches his followers about the benefits of practicing Vajrakilaya. Vajrakilaya, believed to remove challenges, negative influences, and religious barriers.
The Nyingma order of Tibetan Buddhism has embraced this practice, as evidenced by the Thangka's three heads, six limbs, and four legs. The Thangka features Vajrakilaya with his consort Khorlo Gyedunma, with his hands wrapped around her waist. He is holding a mystical phurba dagger with three blades and a magical point. Each blade can remove one of the three fundamental obstacles to spiritual awareness: hated feelings, sensual desires, and ignorance. The three-pointed tip of the dagger represents unimpeded attention and immense emptiness. In a ring of fire symbolizing pristine consciousness, Vajrakilaya and his consort are standing, while their consort holds a kapala skull cup filled with the blood of the four maras. They appear to be wearing crowns with five skulls of humans, symbolizing the death of the five skandhas and their transformation into the five wisdoms, a concept that will surely enlighten and inspire.
